  1. How do I qualify for Kentucky Mountain Housing's services?
    There are three main criteria to qualify for a new construction unit: 1) Meet the income guidelines, 2) Meet the minimum credit score requirement, 3) Have land or know where land is available to you. For home repair services and inventory sales, you must still meet organization guidelines, although these guidelines may differ.
  2. How do I apply?
    Applying for Kentucky Mountain Housing's services is quick and easy! Applications are available at either of our office locations. We would also be glad to mail an application to someone interested in applying. Lastly, the application is available on this website, under the "To Apply" tab, at the top of each page.
  3. What would my payment be?
    Payments cannot be given, or even estimated, until an applicant has been approved for our services and begins to move through the process. Each applicant is unique and different house plans warrant different costs (principal, taxes, insurance) and income level affects interest rates as well.
  4. What area do you serve?
    Kentucky Mountain Housing services all of Clay, Jackson and Owsley counties. We also serve the Red Bird area of Bell and Leslie counties.
  5. What types of home repair services are available?
    KMHDC offers a vast variety of home repair options, which include: Roof repair/replacement, HVAC (heating and cooling), window and door replacement, wiring and plumbing repair and handicap accessibility. To inquire about a specific repair need, please contact one of our offices.
  6. Are home repair services available for mobile homes?
    Unfortunately, Kentucky Mountain Housing does not offer home repair services to mobile homes at this time.
  7. What are the income guidelines for KMHDC services?
    Income guidelines for our services, depend on household size. Please click the download button below to see the current income guidelines.
  8. What can I do if I do not qualify?
    For applicants who are not initially approved for our program, we offer housing counseling services. We are happy to work with applicants regarding issues such as credit scores, budgeting and debt. Counseling can offer solutions to any issues that prevented the initial approval. After counseling, applicants may re-apply.
